I remember in high school
You would make fun of me
It was because I was poor
I didn't have money
I didn't have fancy clothes
At least I had shoes on my toes
You said I was ugly
I'm beautiful on the inside
You must have something to hide
I was always on the outside looking in
At least I didn't have to pretend
It helped my broken heart mend
I'll never go through this again
Girls you can't see
Your inner beauty
You don't need plastic surgery
Or fake breast to be the best
Girls listen to me
Be who you want to be
Not some cover on
A magazine
Those images fade away
Don't lose your youth to yesterday
You have to live for today
Listen to what I say
And stay who you are
Keep reaching for that star
You'll go far
I went to college
I met a man
He was so good to me
That's why I didn't understand
How he could abuse me
Oh how I let him use me
Make me feel so dumb
Make me feel so numb
Something I had to overcome
I knew if I stayed I would die
I left his ass didn't even cry
I never even said goodbye
I chose to fly
Girls you can't see
Your inner beauty
You don't need plastic surgery
Or fake breast to be the best
Girls listen to me
Be who you want to be
Not some cover on
A magazine
Those images fade away
Don't lose your youth to yesterday
You have to live for today
Listen to what I say
And stay who you are
Keep reaching for that star
You'll go far
I have a daughter of my own
I'm with her everyday
She's never alone
I don't want her to face
What I went through
You can come out a better person
In the end that's up to you
Every lesson in life
Makes us stronger
And when you think
You can't hold on
Hold on a little longer
Just keep on holding on
Girls you can't see
Your inner beauty
You don't need plastic surgery
Or fake breast to be the best
Girls listen to me
Be who you want to be
Not some cover on
A magazine
Those images fade away
Don't lose your youth to yesterday
You have to live for today
Listen to what I say
And stay who you are
Keep reaching for that star
You'll go far
